Wynton was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 35th round of the 2012 MLB Junior Amateur Draft right out of college. His run with the Padres lasted for two years when he was cut from the team just a month before the season started. Fortunately, he was picked up almost immediately with a minor league deal from the Detroit Tigers. Playing for the West Michigan Whitecaps throughout 2014, he broke the teams single hit record with 164 hits and was named 2014 Midwest League MVP.

He joined the Tigers roster in October of 2014.
